Any advise please. I have had pacemaker fitted nearly two years ago now. I have recently had a job opportunity which nedded me to lift 40kg boxes. I found myself in some discomfort afterwards not seroius just discomfort. When i was told by the team who fitted the pacemaker to take things easy from now on. No heavy lifting. The point is what weight is reasonable to lift and if i needed to lift anything heavier what would be the complications. How would it affect my pacemaker or my heart. I had the pacemaker fitted for total heart block.
hope you can advise.
thankyou.

conservative advice

There are some who will tell us not to lift but my doc said do what I want, that being in shape and staying active is the best thing I can do for my heart. I was lifting more than that at the gym this morning, with my doc's blessing, and I'm a 5'6" girl :)
Worst case, it would not affect your heart. The risk is to the leads, but leads are soft and flexible, designed to move with us, and after the first few weeks they are held in tight with scar tissue. If you are getting sore after, be careful for a bit. It is probably just a matter of getting used to it but be wary of doing anything that will hurt the leads. We can tell when it doesn't feel right.
How big are you?????

If you are the size & strength of a "Bulgarian Olympic Weight Lifter," (My Cardio's favorite example to use) & used to lifting 100 kilo weights - No sweat! If you are my size, 5'6" & 190 lbs of soft, quivering 80 year old flab - I'd say pass it up.
About the only rule that I would say is universal & fits everyone is don't get a job breaking up concrete or asphalt all day w/ a humongous compressed air jack hammer on a road repair crew.

Life does not stop with a pacemaker, even though it caught me off guard.
Heavy lifting

It is my opinion there is really no problem with heavy lifting. I have had my PM for 30 years and have done a lot of physical work without any problems.
If you are in decent shape and can handle a little strenuous exercise, it is probably good for you.
