new to the club

Hi, I'm 42 yrs old and 2nd week with pacemaker. Bit of a shock at first however realizing that having this device in me is going to help with my quality of life. I teach powerskating and play ice hockey so a bit nervous about that. I have looked up the pacemakerguard and was intrigued by this. I will pursue this a bit further. I'm thankful for every one at the hospital and my family that is there to support me through this next chapter in my life.

cheers
Heath

I got mine at 42 as well, and although I don't know exactly why you got yours, clearly you're otherwise fit, and anticipating a normal life! Bear in mind that you won't damage the pacemaker if it gets hit - but it will hurt. They're built to take abuse (ask donr, one of the members here, for his experiences), but you're not :).

Sounds like you have a good attitude, which will help you learn to forget your electronic friend is even there most of the time. Bear in mind that sometimes it takes a few doctor's visits to get the settings finely tuned for you, as we're all different.

Don't be afraid to post here with questions - no question is silly - and progress reports. I found being able to educate myself, and my family, through this site was very helpful, and reassuring.

You know you're wired when...

Trade secrets can be smuggled inside your device.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
