Are there any industrial electricians out there with a ICD?
I had my ST. Jude's ICD implanted on 2-24-14 49 yrs. old. Yesterday was my fist day back at work. Made me stay in the shop. I want to stay a electrician until I find a job - posting doing something I want. Also have a Millwright card and can get the next Millwright opening. They hinted at pipefitting job. I talked to the other pipefitters and they will do my welding for me. But welders in the shop. (I know 2' from welders) Trouble shooting welders is about 5 - 10% job. Not the power source but the controls. Controls are any where from 2' away to 12' away. Thanks for any help.

....I can dig him up for you. HE is your best source for info since he did just that before retiring a few yrs ago.
I just checked his posts/comments - he has been talking about potential gall bladder removal or a heart valve replacement, so may be out of circulation for either of those.

Thanks

Rogue,
Just got a message from donr about your situation. Just got home from a three day stay at DUKE with a stroke!
Anyway, I worked as a general maintenance tech doing electrical (ac/dc) air, hydraulics, welding, pipe fitting and all the rest as needed for over 25 years.
I was subjected to some pretty heavy elctrical flux and also in some high magnetic draws and also in confined quarters.
What I found was this: As long as I had freedom of movement (in and out of an area) at my disposal I had no issues, and as long as I was able to keep the issues at least 12 to 18 inches away I was good to go. Was it easy! NOPE! In fact it was uncomfortable at times as I was often in an area that had four electric sintering furnaces in it. The plant I worked in had over 100 grinding machings that had magnetic chucks on them and 25 CNC griders that had seld contained cotrol cabinets attached to the as well as the usual high voltage switch gear rooms.
IF you are exposed to high electrical flux/magnets etc you will be able to tell ALMOST IMMEDIATELY and if you are allowed to vacate the area (usually just get 8 to 10 feet away it will be fine. What will happen is your ICD will switch to test mode and will continue to be in that mode until you are out out range. I've burned many a rod but was well clear of the source at the time. An almost never fail warning was that my pulse rate would go nuts and search like a kid lookingfor hidden easter eggs and during rapids exposure I would break out in a cold sweat!.
pLAY THE TRY AND SEE ROUTINE AND LEARN WHAT YOUR real PROBLEMS AREAS ARE! iT WON'T KILL YOU (justmake you feel bad).
You can private message you if you need to!
THANKS donr (haven't heard from you in a bit).
