Hi,Can anyone give me any advice on tooth extraction. I am having two teeth extracted tomorrow. I have read about having antibiotics before the procedure but wondered if that was for every one who has a pacemaker. I had my pm fitted 7months ago for brady/tachy/af.
I would appreciate anyones thoughts on this.
Thanks Lis.

My Cardiologist said no

My dentist called my Cardiologist before she did work on me. He told her not to give me antibiotics before any procedure, it wasn't necessary!
YMMV
No problem

My dentist extracted one of my teeth with no antibiotic and no problems.

I know you've had an artificial heart valve fitted hence the massive dose of Amoxicillin ( any gut upsets with that dose ?? often high doses give you a run for your money if you know what I mean ! )
I was interested to read that the jury is still out on the need
for antibiotic cover even with artificial valve patients; better safe than sorry I guess !
Cheers

.............for the last five years in the UK I have not been expected to take Antibiotic 'Cover'...up until then I would take a massive 3 Grams of Amoxicillin in one go !!...crazy looking back.
It was more to do with insurance than any provable risk factor.
Best wishes Smokie..

Andrew will write to me for a December Forum re all Cardiac issues...this is about a group that looks at all aspects of cardiac health....I look forward to being involved in this matter.

There is absolutely no need for antibiotic prophylaxis just because you have a PM.
With some other heart conditions such as replacement heart valves , dentists usually give a/b's to help prevent bacterial endocarditis but PMs do not give the same risk.
Enjoy tomorrow !!!!
