Trip 3 weeks after PM

I am scheduled on a trip to California with friends 3 weeks and 1 day post surgery. Any comments? Doable or no?

providing that you are recovering well and have no particular problems .

I went on a 3 week vacation to the South of France exactly
7 days after implant and had no problems whatsoever .

I avoided carrying heavy suitcases with the arm on the PM
side though .

Have a good time !

California

I live in California and there are plenty of sunshine, hospitals and good doctors here just in case you need them :-)

I wouldn't recommend traveling oversea (out of USA) yet since you just barely had the PM and because of insurance situation if you ever need health care. I mean if you really want to force the issue, I guess you can look into buying health insurance for oversea travels. For your case, anywhere in this beautiful country of USA and you're a (proud) American with insurance, you are in good hand.

I wish you a great trip if you decide to go. :-)

I was supposed to go to Israel for business exactly 2 weeks after getting my PM. I was given the all-clear the day I was released from the hospital.

Thank goodness I didn't go!

I felt like crap (pardon the language). As it turned out, I was having episodes of Afib. So they put me on a beta-blocker and baby aspirin.

Five days after that, I got a DVT in my left armpit and I was not babying that side at all. All this happened within the first 3 weeks.

I agree with Duke not traveling out of the country just yet; domestic travel should be fine IF YOU FEEL WELL. Help is readily available. Just make sure you're in great shape first. And get some of those compression hose, especially if you're flying. They're fantastic.

3weeks?

Why wait so long? Like Ian I had my first flight 7 days after my implant and checked my bag instead of using a carry on. Other than that it was business as usual, hiking, swimming, sailing, and eating enough lobster to make up for living in the Midwest. Came back and spent some time with friends at a lake house, swimming, boating, relaxing on the dock in the sun, eating, relaxing. Then headed to Florida for some beach time. This device got me 6 weeks off work, I made the most if it.
There are clear waterproof sterile dressings you can use if you plan to swim in California. Have fun!

Great info!

I received my PM in late August and was scheduled to leave for a long planned trip to Italy on September 10. I asked my EP in the ER if I would be able to go and he said, "Of course". So off we went and it was great! Go, relax, revel and remember.

One last point.

I didn't know you're going to the wine country.
Lots of good wine there to sample. I must warn you in advance, wine might trigger episodes of arrhythmia and might ruin your trip. Know your limit and don't get carry away. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous though.
Enjoy your trip and take good care. I wish you well.
