I just spent a month touring China. I've had my pacemaker for 4 years and am 71.
Security in China is very high. Most of the sites we visited required walking through metal detectors. Lots of fun trying to get across that I could not walk through the detector. Next time I will have a note written in Chinese saying that I cannot go through the metal detector.
I've traveled through North America and Europe and every time I was patted down it was done by a man. I always ask to have a cute lady do it but no luck. In China they don't care. Several young ladies did the search which gave me bragging rights to my wife.
It was a great trip but the next time I will bring a note, laminated, written in the language of the country explaining that I had a pacemaker and can not go through the detector.
Great site.

Pat down

The very worst I ever had was at Hobart airport in Tasmania. Was more like a pat up! Than pat down. Not good.standing there in bare feet watching your bag disappear down the conveyer belt while being um... Fingered
I know Chinese.

Hi belljn,
I know Chinese. Before your next trip, let me know, I can help translate. :)
Did you try the Beijing duck? Did you try the snack food that was to please the emperors in the past? Food is a great part of our culture as it's more than just something to tame your hunger.
Great to see that many people can still have a quality life after the insertion. I hope my coming insertion will do the same.

Metronics provide will a multi lingual card for pm travelers. Chinese is one of the languages. Worked for me.

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.

You have just brought back wonderful memories of my last trip to China :-
The Terracotta Arrny was OK, The Great Wall wasn't bad, Tiananmen Square .. take it, or leave it !
BUT, some of the pat-downs I had in the airports were really quite memorable , I can't wait to go back !!
