Increase in EF after 6 months

My ejection fraction is 41 % , got the pacemaker 6 months back due to HF. Any information on increase in ejection fraction after 6-7 Months of HF , can it happen ?

It can vary

Saw some improvement within 12-18 months was 50% and has increased a little more since then (5 years now). For me, medicine, losing some weight (75 lbs.) and exercising I believe has all helped.

I'm still a work in progress. :o)

Its also CRT-D

Mine is also CRT-D , Its great to know that you got to the normal numbers. How long did it take to get it normal, did it happen in first 6 Months ?

Sounds like you have a CRT

Me too. Nothing in your profile so I can't tell.

A CRT-D (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy) The D stands for defibrillator. The CRT has a 3rd lead for your left ventricle so that your right and left ventricles will beat in sync and your heart will pump more efficiently and supply your body and lungs with more oxygenated blood. Amazing right!

Mine was 24% before implant and is now 50-55% (normal) like Baz said. Mine was also due to a virus.

So yes, improvements can happen but not always. We are very, very lucky.

Do Not Expect...

...major changes from here on. The way things work like this correction for low EF, the major changes come very quickly after the implant. Note that you went up 10% in the first week. It took nearly 23 weeks. 41% is not too shabby, considering what you went through. You are knocking on the door of normalcy. Plain old math & a knowledge of the way things correct themselves says you are not finished improving - it's just going to be slow.

Also on the same track

Thanks all, it does help ....
I am also on the same track , so far reduced 20lbs,
on diet control (low salt) and on medication.
Keeping the fingers crossed ....

Increase in EF after 6 months

Hi,

My EF was 45% before my CRT-P was fitted for HF. On the next EF test approx 18 months later the cardio said my heart had "normalized". Good luck.

What was your EF

...BEFORE the PM? That's the important number. Is there an improvement over that number now that you are at 41%?

EF numbers

6 months back my EF went down to 15%(Due to HF viral attack) ), After the PM it went up to 20-25% within a week, now after 6 months its ~41%.

You know you're wired when...

Your pacemaker receives radio frequencies.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
