I had emergency pm implanted 1-14-2014. Have felt like hell still and now having jaw pain and heart beats go boom ever now and then when I lay down at night?? Still waiting to feel wonderful. Going for stress test next week. Cardio said could possibly have blockage when they took bp readings on both arms, my right was higher than left and she does not like me having the jaw pain. Any new pm people have similar complaints. Ever heard of Pacemaker Syndrome? Would love your input. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever feel good again.

Jaw thumping
by Theknotguy - 2014-03-22 10:03:40
I had pain in my jaw and a thumping heart when I tried to sleep just after getting my PM. The symptoms continued up to the 90 day period when they dropped the voltage on my PM. As soon as they dropped the voltage I started sleeping better at night and the pain in my jaw and the thumping went away.
A question for your EP. Can they drop the voltage? It may help with the jaw pain.
Hope other tests will show something.

Thank you to everyone for your support. Just wanted to quickly bring you up to date. Hope my experience helps someone else!!
I went to the ER with continued jaw pain and heart bouncing all over the place. Long story short. the 2 leads in my pacemaker were dangling unattached to my heart and thus the jaw pain and heart beats all over the place. The EP specialist said whoever inplanted the original pm did not have experience!!!! They inplanted new leads and after 2 day stay in hospital I am home. In severe pain, but this will subside in several days. I am very fortunate and so lucky that the specialist were in town. Best regards to everyone. Pay attention to your body and when you know something is not right do not let up until they find out exactly the cause!!! Heres to good health(:)

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.

I'm glad that you're going for the stress test and probably an echocardiogram, too, next week. I'm a bit surprised that your doctor didn't order a heart cath yet but that may be next.
I felt lousy after I had my PM, too. It took a good 6-8 weeks (I'm now 12 weeks post-op) for me but everyone is different.
There are a number of people on this site that have mentioned PM Syndrome. At the top of this page, there is a horizontal gray bar with a SEARCH option. If you enter "Pacemaker Syndrome," you can read what others have had to say about it.
Please keep us posted on your doctor's findings next week. In the meantime, if your pain increases, please get to the ER. You'll get your test results right away, which is a real plus!
