I am new and have lots of questions. I hit the er with pulse rate of 38. (Jan 11th) 2 hrs. later they put in temporary pacemaker. My heart did not jump in and take over as doc had hoped so a permanent pacemaker was put in January 13th. I have not had any pain, you can barely see scar, but I feel no different energy wise????? There is some mental adjustment, but I know I am so lucky to be alive! When will I start feeling energized??? So happy to have found this support group. Hope everyone is doing good. Just really would appreciate your input and encouragement. Thanks.

My experience with getting my pacemaker was just as sudden so I can understand the adjustment. I was put on a heart halter monitor and as soon as the doctors saw that my heart would stop beating for significant amounts of time, they immediately scheduled me for a PM. The most adjustment I have had to deal with is knowing that my heart stopped frequently and not knowing exactly how often. I am so fortunate that the doctors caught my condition when they did and that nothing serious has happened before other than passing out. I think you are doing a great job adjusting and are in high spirits. Things are just going to get better from here.
you will feel some changes, I think

Hi. I received my pacemaker for third degree heart block. It took a while to feel better in general (about a month) but I didn't really have increased energy and I really thought I would. At my first check up, the doc upped my heart rate and now I do have much more energy. I feel like I did 10 years ago. Or maybe even 20. Make sure you bring up your feelings of tiredness at your next appointment. Or even better, make an appointment to talk about it.
did you have other issues

My heart rate is pretty low cardiologist did not seam at all concerned. Did some testing (See my other post) I am going for a EPS friday. I go back and forth in my little mind about what to think. Not sure what the test will show if anything. Back to my question do people get pacemakers for slow heart rate if nothing shows up in all the test? Guess I will find out Friday. I just do not understand.

Give it time' you and it are still adjusting to each other.
After a body and mind adjustment you will be looking for ways to just sit down and relax. Get ready for a very active and exciting life ahead (if YOU permit it).
Welcome to the group!

Energy

I too am wondering when I will become more energetic as I was extremely fatigued before my pm. I have read over & over "give it time". I am 2 mos post pm placement. Very thankful for it but remain a bit frustrated that I am not feeling more energetic. Multiple interrogations/adjustments made in the past two months. It has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride. I have been told that some patient's devices are more difficult to "tweak" than others thus the benefits one receives from the pm varies depending on settings. Maybe your settings need tweaked:). I'm sure you are in good hands. Time does heal. The mind is very powerful, try to keep positive. I'm sure you will start feeling more energized as time passes. Take care!

If you weren't feeling super tired and symptomatic before, you may not feel much different now. Sounds like you are healing very well! If you have questions, don't be shy.
