I am to have 3 teeth removed next week - the dentist at the hospital has said I will have an anti-coagulant injection after teeth taken out.My INR is at present 2.4 and they will do INR test at hospital before have work done.Has anybody had this injection and where do they inject you?Does it alter INR reading much?Any comments appreciated.tks

Coumadin

With an INR of 2.4, I guess that you are on Coumadin. The dentist probably intends to have you stop the Coumadin a few days prior to the surgery in order to get your INR back to normal levels and avoid excessive bleeding. After the surgery you would get a faster acting anti coagulating injection that a nurse (or you) would inject into the soft tissue of your stomach or arm. I recommend the stomach because the one time I did it in the arm it stung. It is virtually painless in the stomach. My understand is that the injection(s) will raise your INR quickly while you are restarted on Coumadin which will take days to get back to a therapeutic level.
