I have just read that 65 per cent of bankruptcies in the USA are caused by ill health in the person's family !
I don't believe everything I read in UK newspapers ; is this statistic true ??

Get an attorney

Please get an attorney to work on your case for Perm Disability. Most attorney work on the basis of not collecting any money until case if won. They know what paperwork to submit or get from the doctors. I should have done it myself. Sometimes I get blackouts even with a pacemaker. Good Luck.

It was always my understanding that the major cause of bankruptcy filings is too much debt. :)
Seriously though, your stat sounds a bit high.
About right

The number may or may not be exact, but my attorney says most of the ones she sees are caused by too much debt caused by astronomic medical bills only partly covered by insurance, then add the loss of income from sickness, and that's all she wrote!

Thanks for your replies to my query, very interesting !
I bet all of those bankrupt families are big believers in
"affordable healthcare" . I do hope that things improve re the gross overcharging for your health.

Suggest you contact Age UK and request help / advice from one of their people. Probably varies around the UK but we found they made home visit(s) and sorted an appeal which was successful. Best of luck and bear in mind that many people had to appeal more than once before awarded DLA (now PIP).

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.

My understanding is that P.I.P. has replaced the old Disability Living Allowance and whether you receive it, or not, depends upon how "disabled" you are by the medical condition.
To receive it your husband would have to have difficulties in normal living i.e. he would need help to
- wash, bathe and use the toilet
- prepare and eat food
- dress and undress
- etc etc
Also his level of mobility can help sway the decision-makers. It would seem that your application for financial help has not convinced them that your husband's life - limitations are severe enough to justify help.
Only you know if your husband should qualify on these grounds so re-apply with more evidence if you think so.
It is sad that so many benefits are being cut because of the dire state of the UK economy following the banking crisis and the spending spree of the last government .
The country is in debt and regrettably there are cutbacks in all sorts of areas and people like yourselves are the losers..
Best of luck
Ian
