One year

7/5 was my one year anniversary with my new friend-PM. I was 65 and very athletic when on 7/4 I was taken by ambo to ER where I was hooked up and the DR said that I had SSS. I waited the appropriate time period (two months) before returning to the gym - 3-4 days per week, golf and distance swimming. After my last check up the PM continues to only work less than 1% of the time. That means the battery should last forever. The DR still do not know the cause of my SSS, but now that I have the PM I don't have to worry about any future events. This site has been helpful allowing me to get information about PM and living with it.

Hi Jim,

That is great to hear! Glad you are doing so well. I think many of us who have electrical problems with our hearts don't know the cause. I have heart block and asked my Dr. what causes it and what I could / should have done differently to prevent it and he told me they do not know the cause so there was no way to prevent it. You are right - now that we have our pacers we know we can live normal healthy lives and don't have to worry about fainting or other symptoms.

I hope the next year continues to be so good for you!

Take care,
~Sheila

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
