just tired

Hello all, I am 2 1/2 years now with pacer and overall doing ok. But for about 6 months now I have been very tired throughout the day. I lie down several times, might take a short nap/day. At night I have deep yawnings, maybe 20 to 30 before I get to sleep. Haven't seen a cardiologist for over a year. So, am wondering if anyone else has these "things" or is this just an aging process with a pacer? I am a young 75....
Thanks for any thoughts, Nita

It gets easy to blame everything on the pacer and/or our heart. Our doctors can be just as guilty of this as we are. If your cardiologist hasn't done a work up in a while, ask for one. Keep a food and sleep diary. Get some blood work done and have a physical. Ask if a sleep study is appropriate. If you are on new meds, read the label carefully. Many, many things can make us tired. All the pacer is doing is adding beats when your heart is too slow.

Sleepy

Hello,

I recently started getting super sleepy too. For me, it turned out that my pacer was in a battery saver mode. So, any time my hr would drop below 65, it would pace me. What this did was not allow my body to go deep into sleep. I've had my new pacer for 2 days now, and have slept more in these two days than the past 2 months!

It's true, you probably need some testing, not only on your heart, but overall sleep. However, start with the easiest thing to check first!

Have you checked for....

Have you checked for sleep apnea? Based upon your comments it sounds like classic sleep apnea. There can be other things, of course, but I'd start there.

all of the above...and then some

First, you should be monitored and tested quarterly. These might be remote tests with the newer devices; but your EP still knows what is going on. Second, you need to see your EP annually at a minimum! Mine is scheduled for every 6 months with an annual check-up at the device clinic.

Yes, it could also be sleep apnea.
Yes, it could also be one of your meds.

But, you aren't going to know if you don't see your cardiology team regularly!

You know you're wired when...

Your device acts like a police scanner.

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
