Anyone lose a lot of weight?

In I got my PM two weeks ago yesterday. In the past 11 days, my weight has dropped from 240 to 229 1/2. While I like losing weight, such a rapid loss concerns me. My weight was perfectly stable until 11 days ago, 4 days after the implant. Any ideas? Anyone experience anything similar? Thanks in advance.

The PM makes a difference

The PM makes a difference. I dropped 34 pounds but most of that was due to the trauma before getting the PM. While I didn't think I was retaining water, apparently I was. My wife told me my fingers were "fat" before the event. Obviously after losing 34 pounds they got skinny again.

The IV's added over two gallons of fluid which I rapidly lost. I've gained back about 20 pounds since then. Holiday food and my wife is a good cook. Apparently my eating hasn't suffered after getting a PM.

Because of my therapy, I have to do more exercise to keep up the heart rate to target levels. That translates to losing more weight as I exercise especially if I keep eating the same amount of food.

For you, I'd keep watching the weight. See if it levels out and gets stable. Bring it to the attention of your therapists. Obviously if your wight doesn't get stable you've got a problem. But with the nurse therapists watching they'll alert you to problems. Make sure you're drinking enough water.

Hang in there. Life gets better.

Once again, thanks for a very helpful reply. Your participation here is much appreciated by me, and I'm sure by everyone else as well. (I hope to know enough about the subject soon/eventually to also be able to be helpful to others.)

Higher heart rate

A higher heart rate may raise your metabolic rate a little which means you may burn more calories. You may also have dropped a couple of lbs through anxiety in the early days. If it persists then see the doctor, but I doubt there is any connection. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the replies, a little more info

First, thanks to ANGRYSPARROW and Hot Heart. I probably should have mentioned in the original post that I'm 69, male, 6 feet 1 inch tall. Interestingly, the weight loss started on the day I first visited the pacemaker clinic (4 days after the implant). At that appointment, the minimum HR was adjusted upward from 50 to 60. As a result, I had a good deal more energy. My wife thinks increasing the minimum HR might have something to do with the weight loss, but 10 1/2 pounds in 11 days is quite a bit. I had no signs of water retention in the feet or ankles prior to the surgery.

Weight Loss

I had my pacemaker installed 4 weeks ago and I too experienced weight loss.

Think it is a fantastic result of the pacemaker, Don't know where the weight loss will stable out, but when it does, I will be happy for the loss.

Thanks a lot for telling me about your experience. Much appreciated.

This might be a unexpected plus! Fascinating 🤞

I began to experience very very slow weight gain  a few years ago, regardless of diet and exercise.  Then I began having AFib and Aflutter, and more bradycardia.  Over the past two years with rhythm medication, coincidentally the weight gain stopped, but even with intermittent fasting I lost no weight.  Yesterday I had a pacemaker inserted as result of worsening bradycardia and I am curious to see if I can finally lose that ten pounds I gained.  Your experience is fascinating. Stay tuned. I will watch the scale as I heal. BTW for other's reading this before surgery...I was terrified...for no reason. I am resting comfortably, at home, with occasional tylenol less than 24 hrs out!🎊

Ok one month today

And yes, I have lost 4 lbs despite little exercise or activity.  I have always watched what I eat, but am happy to see some of the weight I have seen creep up the past few years go! Hope it continues.

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.
