I am 42 and always felt like I was in pretty good shape. Was diagnosed with AV Block and had dual chamber PM put in 12/10/13. I am anxious to get back to exercise and especially golf, but plan on waiting for 3 month mark. Has anyone out there had any issues with leads becoming dislodged from activities after the 3 month mark?
Thanks

Wait at least 6 weeks

I started chipping and putting at 6 weeks, then took 3/4 swings with my driver and woods at 8 weeks. It also made me swing more slowly which only helps my game. Now almost 5 months out I continue to golf at least 3x a week and the best part is I no longer feel like I am about to pass out on the golf course!
Go ahead and play

golfpro1,
I lead a very active life and have always kept myself in good shape. I play 9 holes of golf a little less than 6 weeks after implant and 18 holes 2 days later. I could feel the PM in my shoulder so it probably slowed down my swing. I actually had a pretty good round. About 6 weeks after that I went down to Naples, FL for a week of golf. As long as the leads are set their is no worry.

I'm 44, active and have had my device for two years. I love it as I can run again and enjoy working out without feeling like I'm an old man.

Odds of a lead coming dislodged after the first 48 hours are very small, and when they do it's usually because it's not in a good place rather than from something we did. Everything after that is precaution. They do not put the leads in taut. There is usually excess which they coil behind the device so if you were to pull, it would pull on the excess coiled area, not the end of the wire that goes down into the heart.
Opinions are mixed on how long to wait for a full golf swing, anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months. You can practice now if you feel ready, just don't do a full swing. Rule is keep the elbow lower than shoulder level, anything else is good, even encouraged because you don't want your shoulder to freeze up. I've never heard of problems after three months. I don't golf but am very active. I got my first pm in 1994 for av block and haven't managed to break anything yet. The pm doesn't keep me from doing anything I want to do.
