1 year with my PM and doing fine. just got back from a trip from mexico to usa and forgot to mention pacemaker to airport security. no problems but got me thinking. any problems with the scanners? what about handheld??

Handheld should only be used below the waist. They generally do a pat down instead.
3d scanners are fine, they're just xrays.
Metal detectors can be fine too, as you accidentally learned. They don't hurt us, the risk is setting them off. If we forget to tell them and set it off, they are a lot touchier about the pat down than if you'd told them in the first place.
