Thanks in advance

..the MODE in which the PM operates. There is an international standard for labeling the operating modes. You can find it through Google - search for Pacemaker mode codes.
Briefly, they all have 3 or 4 letters in the code.
Position 1); How many chambers are PACED. D= Dual, meaning both atria & ventricular. (A= Atrial; V= Ventricular)
Position 2) How many chambers are SENSED. D= Dual (Again) (Again, A=Atrial; V= Ventricular.)
Position 3) How many chambers have an INHIBITION Function. D= Dual - etc.
Remember - go to Google for the details. It's a lot longer than what I have just given.
Don
Position 4) Whether or not the Rate Response is turned on or off. R= ON; nothing means it is NOT turned on.

Below is a link that does a pretty good job of explaining the basics of the more common pacemaker modes. At the top of the page are buttons for AAI, VVI, DDD, DDI, etc. I found the explanations pretty clear and helpful. He also has a few examples for each mode to help make it clearer.
Please note that this site is trying to sell a pacemaker simulator application for iPad, but there is no obligation when reading these pages. I have no connection and am not endorsing the software, just to be clear.
This link takes you to his DDD page:
