My pacemaker was implanted a month ago. I have had several episodes today. Hard to describe, certainly not the feelings of fainting but weird. It's almost like I would be experiencing the same symptoms on they stop short. I am assuming it's because the pacer does it's job. Is this normal as it's early in the process, I have recorded this for reference if I need to describe at some point. Thanks!

Thank you for your comment. I am on no medications, have had no pain. The weird thing about my bradycardia is that it happened one day a month, usually around the 24 or 25 and today is a couple days later. I would have low HR off and on for a day and than not again for another month. This is about the same time frame, symptoms are less because my HR is set on pacemaker and I don't feel faint. This is really weird, feel more flushed but certainly not normal. I have had symptons off an on all day since 1:30 every 30 to 6o minutes. I have been blessed, had some pain meds the first days but no needed since.

Mabe:
I too had mine put in a month ago. I have had lots of feelings, emotional and physical. My question for you is about medication. I had extreme dizziness from indomethacin-a rather mild pain reliever. toradol also made me a bit dizzy. After two weeks I developed extreme pain at the site. Doc said inflammation and prescribed the indomethacin. Now all I take is alleve or advil. If it is not your pain meds, I would definitely call your doctor.
good luck!

Me, too

I've had the same thing, feeling lightheaded and dizzy but not to the point of passing out like before PM. My PM implant was Oct. 1st. I used to yawn big hard yawns that brought tears to my eyes when I felt like this before PM. It was almost like a coping mechanism because those yawns really made me feel better even if just temporary. Now my body does the same thing but the yawns are even different, shorter and not nearly as deep so I don't get the relief from them that I used to. That sounds weird even to me but it's true.

I should have mentioned, too, that you should always talk to your dr. about new symptoms that arise...

Dizziness...

by jenny97 - 2013-10-28 09:10:53

Dizziness can be caused by many things. If your syncope was caused solely by bradycardia, then the PM should fix the problem. However, if your pre-PM syncope and symptoms were caused, at least in part, by low blood pressure, prior to implantation, you can still have many of the symptoms because PMs don't address the blood pressure issues at all. Most PMs are not FDA approved for treatment of these conditions, which often still have to be managed by meds after implantation. That said, there are settings that can help and can arrest the fainting process and since you mentioned that you feel flushed, I suspect they may be working. One such setting is the rate drop response. With this setting if your heart rate drops by so many beats per minute, the PM will kick in at a higher rate. The idea is that the higher heart rate will help increase the blood pressure. For example, my PM is set to sense when my heart rate drops by 30 beats in 30 seconds. it then kicks in at 95 beats per minute for two minutes. As the heart rate drops, I often feel dizzy and when the PM kicks in, I turn red and feel flushed. When my settings are set properly, I don't generally faint at all, although I still feel symptoms several times a week, depending on my activities. I'm hoping my next replacement will be with a PM that is designed to treat my condition more fully.

Anyway, good luck to you!

You might ask your EP about that setting?

Yup I had that--

I've have a pm for a year and a half now and in the beginning I would have those weird feelings a lot. I felt dizzy and it's like my body was ready to feel very dizzy and then it's cut short. I did mention it to my EP and he made some changes in the settings. Every once in a while I still feel it -- but it's not very often. I would assume my pm kicks in and saves me.

Thanks for all the great comments and suggestions. I will discuss with EP and see if I need adjustments. I am still very curious about my bradycardia and when I told the following to the many cardiologists ( I was in a teaching hospital), all they did was scratch their heads and say, "Interesting, not sure why?". My bradycardia happened(s) once a month almost always on 24 plus or minus a day. My HR was low several times that day and then fine for another month. I am 67 and post menopausal. Anyone have cyclic type of occurrences?

Hi I was so relieved to read that you are experiencing these symptoms. I have had just about all of them. Went back to the doctor after three weeks PM implant, saying that I thought that there was something wrong, he assured me that all was ok, but discovered that it was not pacing properly, so made a few adjustments. This has helped a bit but I think there is more adjusting to be done. I do have the feelings like I am going to faint but not nearly as bad as they used to be before the PM and they cut short very quickly . I also get the flush feelings as well as the yawning thing. I have had my PM for 5 weeks now and it is starting to settle ( I think) . I have also felt that symptoms do have a bit of a cycle but thought I may be imagining it as I am 68. Sometimes I will be good for a few day then I will get those weird feelings again. Such a learning curve with these PM,s
