Pacemaker and Disability Tax

Hi, I'm currently living in Edmonton, Canada. And I am wondering if anyone on here has had any luck with getting the Disability Tax Break on your income taxes. It basically exempts you from having to pay in as much taxes as you normally do.

I'm going to get my doctor to fill out the forum, but would like to hear from members who have tried, whether succesful or not.

Good question

I thought you had to be disabled from working in order to qualify for that tax deduction. I know my dad received it but only because he could not work with his disability.

Now that you have brought it up, I am definitely going to look into because I had a PM/ICD in June and this thought never crossed my mind. If I find anything out, I will send you a message or if you could do the same for me that would be appreciated.

Don't think so

Checked out the CRA website. It states the disability amount is for a person with a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions.

It also stated you must have difficulty walking, feeding, dressing, speaking, vision or mental capability to function on a day to day basis.

Unfortunately, I don't think a PM or ICD qualifies. You can check it our further at www.cra.gc.ca and search disability tax credit.

I am not planning on letting any of this shorten my life. I am planning on living a long happy battery operated life. You never know maybe it will keep me alive longer. I sure know one thing I would have been dead before starting school without it.
