Appetite

Hi Moms,

How was your child appetite after a year following his/her implant date.My son who has a pacemaker,he is putting on weight very slowly and my husband and I are quite concern.

Doctors said with the aid of his pacemaker now, that should not affect his appetite as compared to being without it.

Appreciate your response....

Weight

My daughter was slow to gain weight but I would not put that down to the heart rhythm issues. Even some children with no underlying health problems can not gain weight easily. My daughter was off the bottom of the growth and weight chart for many years but is now not far off being as tall as me.

Personally I would not worry as long as your son is putting on some weight and growing a little.

Is he allowed to go for walks, ride a bike, or play ball in the back yard? You did not give his age. Also make sure he is not eating junk food. Best of luck. Kreth, Mama of 5 grown kids

antibodies?

Is your son's heart block due to antibodies? There is a known association with growth delay in antibody caused heart block kids. Also, there is some theory that an epicardial pacing may affect the metabolic rate slightly. I have two paced kids with heart block - one is huge for her age but she was term and not diagnosed until age 1 when I was pregnant with her brother - he was born with CHB and paced right away - he is tiny.
