Hi all,
I am going in tomorrow for my ICD. A little nervous, but I think I have a good Doctor. Going to Spokane's Sacred Heart hospital. So I should be in good hands. But still nervous.
Taking 2 weeks off work. I am a massage therapist and I don't do lite massages. So thought I had better take an extra week off and then come back lightly. I tested my pounds per square inch and my light touch is still 25 psi. My heavy stuff on the back runs from 50-75psi. So what do you think, is waiting an extra week a good idea or should I just go back after a week.?
Thanks,

I went back too soon, right after a snow storm. I guess if you are feeling that great after the surgery, you can always go back sooner rather then trying to extend it.
Good luck with the surgery, you should be fine.

Question for runners
by Galadriel - 2013-09-27 05:09:35
Hi, I have a question for any of you who are runners. I had my dual chamber (though it is only my sinus node which is currently a problem) metronic rate responsive pm just over 4 weeks ago. Have healed well and very happy with it. It was fitted for bradycardia and sinus pauses, which my running made worse. The current parameters are set at 60 (which I think is a bit high for me as this was my rhr years ago when completely unfit), with an upper limit of 150. With my cardiologist's knowledge and ok, I started running over a week ago and am now up to 5k. However, I am substantially slower than before, slower than I was after a 6 month break a couple of years ago. Is this to be expected with a pm? Is it because I recently had an op to fit a pm?! Or could it be to do with the settings?
I am sorry if this seems like a stupid question but would really appreciate anyone else's experiences.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.

All the best for tomorrow. It will be fine it is my first month with my pm tomorrow and am feeling well and strong. The procedure is straight forward and my surgeon talked to me throughout - no pain and we were even joking!
You will feel sore for a bit afterwards and take time to rest and recover. You will be putting pressure on your arms in your job so listen to your body and doctor's advice. Most seem to suggest a good 4 weeks to heal but I was back running in 3,
Try and get a good night's rest and I must say life with a pm has made very little difference other than the positives of knowing my heart is now able to function really well.
