help re a pacing problem

Hi all
I am new on here, both my 14 year old son and my self 40 have an icd which pace as well.
My son has had his for 8 years now and until the last few weeks his device has never paced him, only ever shocked. But for some reason within the last two weeks his heart rate and blood pressure has dropped out of the blue for no known reason and so the device has been pacing on and off for around 2 to 3 hours. Along with this he has had chest pains and the doctors here dont know why its happening and why he gets the pains. I know everyone is differnet but wanted to know if anyone out there has experienced this where during your pacemeker pacing this causes shest pains ?????
Just a mum trying to find some answers - the worst thing I hate about having any sort of condition is when the hospital says oh its just one of those things - and give you no idea of how to deal with things.
