iPhone Heart Rate Monitor??

A friend sent me a link for an iPhone App that supposedly gives you an instant heart rate readout, using the tip of your finger. Just curious if anybody has used it, knows anything about it, or whether it is worth playing with. I know heart rate monitors aren't always accurate. It only costs $1.99 to download to your iPhone and is a bit intriguing.

Here's the link:

Thanks,

I use it, for fun mostly. It does appear to be accurate for me . I have it for my ipod also and with that there needs to be alot of light. It is not completely instant, but it is fast.

I hope this helps

I don't know about an iPhone. But if you want to check your HR get a Pulse Oximeter, it is quick, cheap and it works. You can buy them online for $30. Check it out on Google.

I saw. A Few months ago, Dr. oz was raving about it on his show. I personally do not have the app, I use a pulse ox. I paid $20. On Amazon

iPhone heart rate app

The most amazing one is called Cadiio, it uses the camera on your iPhone to measure the changes in the reflectivity of your face as your heart beats. Accurate to within +or- 3 BPM. Amaze your friends by reading their pulse without touching them.

Another, Cardiograph plots a graph and them saves them. You can add comments to them and then can show your cardiologist your pulse over time and a range of activities.

Used both to track my pulse before and after getting my PM, amazing difference. Both cost a few bucks, but the feedback you get more than justifies the cost!

Thanks, E.B.

ECG pulse rate

by Bas - 2013-11-13 03:11:57

I believe the best one is from the AF Association in England. They asked me if I would be willing to help them do some research. I said yes so they sent me an attachment that fits on my Iphone which takes your pulse as well as an ecg that is engineered for their research. It fits like a cover for the iphone. They send it for free as long as you take 1 reading per day for 3 months. They sent it to me in Australia. You get to keep it after the 3 months. It shows only AF and pulse then sends the info across to England.
Check it out on their website!

Thanks for all the responses. Lots of cool options out there. I see this as mainly a toy, but a fun one. Perhaps I will see if there is an app that that can record a full EKG. Now that would be of interest, assuming it can record an accurate, meaningful chart.

really cheap pulse rate detector

by KathyB - 2013-11-13 09:11:50

Hi all. I don't have an iphone so I just count my pulse rate from my wrist pulse, only takes 15 seconds and doesn't cost a thing and always readily available. LOL

AliveCor

AliveCor makes a device for iPhones and Android phones that is not a toy. It makes an EKG good enough to email to your doctor for a diagnosis- it shows your P-Waves (or lack thereof if you are afibbing).

AliveCor requires a doctor's prescription and costs $200.00, however right now there is a promo on the website StopAfib.org- you can get one for free (you pay shipping cost $10.00). This is a great device and I use it daily.
