Licorice and cinnamon

I have been told by my heart specialist that i should not eat licorice. Unfortunately i did not ask why. Also every day i drink and infusion of honey and cinnamon and have read that the cinnamon could also be a problem, can anyone clarify this for me.

Licorice interferes with ACE. Inhibitors. I have never heard of cinnamon being a problem.

Potassium

Hi!

Licorice is known to reduce potassium levels. If you take diuretics, for instance because of heart failure, then this effect will be intensified. That's not good, because low potassium levels can cause arrhythmias.

That's the only explanation I'd have. Don't know about the cinnamon, though.

Cinnamon

Like most herbs , cinnamon can be harmful if taken in excess

I believe that 6gms per day is the recommended maximum which sounds like a helluva lot of cinnamon to me ...but if you're taking a cinnamon infusion every day who knows ?

At high doses cinnamon can damage your liver because of its coumarin content ( particularly if the cinnamon comes from Burma ) .Cinnamon also thins the blood which could be a good thing for some people but if you are already on blood-thinners then it is not !

Apparently the origin of the cinnamon is important; if it comes from Ceylon it seems to be safer than the Burmese variety ( also known as Cassia )

I wouldn't worry though unless you really are a cinnamon addict

licorice can raise blood pressure levels and a lot of cinnamon will cause tooth problems (enamel issues) although the cinnamon CASSIA will help with diabetic issues.

never heard of cinnimon, but Golden snitch is right about Licorice...Only if your on a diuretic or lasix. Potassium depletion is an issue when combined.
