I was recently told that my ICD is set to 150 BPM. It's was my understanding that defibs work at three different levels of therapy. First one you don't feel, second feels like a thump to the chest and third is the full zap.
Does anyone know if it is the full zap at the 150 setting or just the first level.
I feel stupid for not asking the Dr. but I had to make a call to even find out what the defib was set for.
I would be remiss to not say once again what an amazing group of people you all are. I wish I had found this site so much earlier. It would have saved so much anxiety.

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.

Hi, I can only tell you of my defib and settings. But want to put your fears at bay. Most are probably set to patient's needs. My defibrillator will first pace me out of v tach (rate 150) this has happened many times and is not at all painful. I have never been shocked since I had a defib (this is my 2nd device). Hopefully you will be lucky as I. Now I am sure those who have been lucky enough to have been shocked when needed will tell you their stories . Meanwhile we will hope you will be paced out of v tach and not have V fib...But, I think -If you NEED it -you would be shocked with 40Joules each time. Good luck...Bev
