the brighter side

from my list of things that make heart disease the gift that keeps on giving for me:

I have no less that 5 nifty zip closure NYU tote bags each complete with a clear toiletries bag and a fresh pair of those amazing hospital socks with the treads on the bottom.

=)

Anyone else have a little ray of silly sunshine?

2 large water bottles that hold like 28 oz's
Note pad and pen
those pretty socks w/treads ( I should move them out,as I don't want to wear them, bad memories!) Plus,I think theyre very unattractive:)

I think that's all, actually I think I don't have the water bottles anymore, everything compliments of The Cleveland Clinic.

I guess its a good thing for me that I am on the "short list" here, means I haven't had a lot of time in hospital!
I will happily take it!

Wow - have I got neat stuff...

1) A whole bunch of the sox Laura mentioned - but I wear them.

2) A bunch of the yellow plastic wash basins - use them all the time.

3) a bunch of the small crescent shaped puke catchers. Use them all the time - NO not for puking, but cleaning STUFF.

4) A couple Hosp plastic mugs w/ integral straws & lids - hold about 19 oz.

5) A couple hosp gowns they sent me home in.

6) Assorted soap bars, shampoo, pooth taste, booth trushes, Leftover partial boxes of kleenex, partial rolls of surgical tape, open packages of 4X4 gauze sponges.

7) fond memories (NOT!)

8) Scars & needle tracks from IV lines

scars a plenty...good story starters

St. Francis Hospital threw me a bridal shower and the doctors and nurses gave me Tiffany's Jewelry...MAJOR WIN. I am not a jewelry lover...but I know what that means!

I did a radio commercial once for St. Francis and they guy doing the voice over was the guy who plays the boss in those old GEICO commercials.

Donr- I am glad you wear the socks. I love the socks. We should buy stock in them. =)

Funny story about the sox

by janetinak - 2013-08-13 03:08:02

when I went in for my 1st (of 5) cardioversions at Providence Hospital the nurse must have known how scared I was. She gives me the sox wrapped in plastic like they come & said with a smile that they were hand made by the nuns (Sisters of Providence). My best memory of that time untiI got my wonderful PM.

Still laugh when I think of that comment at a scary time. And I wore them at home too.

The Joy of Sox................

........................would be a good title for this thread !

The most interesting..though utterly useless thing that I came home with from hospital was my old aortic valve in a little jar.

Surgeon accepted that it was my property so I may as well have it to keep.

Do others have bits of their bodies in jam jars ??

by Duke Heart Patient - 2013-08-13 06:08:36

I've always been a Duke patient all my life .... Back in 2011 when I had my pacemaker implanted and spent 8 days at Duke I rolled out that hospital wearing my UNC TARHEELS hoodie :)

I'm a Carolina fan but Duke Medicine has saved my life .........

About 10 months after my open heart surgery in 2006, since I was only 22 at the time, they went in and took out my sterum wires...still have them in the jar!!!

Are you from New York

by belle - 2013-08-13 11:08:54

Hi, When I saw NYU hosp, I assume you are from New York, the big apple, I live in New York and had my defib implanted at Columbia Pres Hospital. This hospital has the best for their patients, mattress with numbers on them to make you comfortable, magazines galore and usually u get your own room.

I live on Long Island. About half an hour outside the city.

I have never been to Columbia. Originally I was St. Francis on Long Island, and now I see a Cardiologist at Mount Sinai and my EP doc is NYU. I also needed a surgery when NYU was still out of order because of Sandy, so I was at Lenox Hill, but with my NYU team.

You know you're wired when...

Friends call you the bionic woman.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
