Hi. I am a 62 year old female with Medtronic PM placed 2005. 100% dependent. I have 1-8 months left on this pacemaker. I have been seen by 2 cardiologists & 1 surgeon. since April as well as monthly in office follow ups.. I want to have the PM changed now rather than wait for ERI & neither Dr. will do it . We travel internationally a lot due to my husbands work. The Drs are completely insensitive to my pleas. Has anyone had their replaced before ERI

I have been told that

Medicare will not replace until PM goes into ERI. I had same situation & was checked every month ( Dec thru Aug) & I was just checked & still not in ERI but 2 wks later it went into ERI. Had no energy & tired as my Rate Response shut off to conserve battery. I called Boston Scientific & was told on my PM I had 90 days until End of life & that I didn't want to do that.
So you might ask on your maker of PM PM how much time it has in ERI. Then how fast you could get back to your Dr to have PM replaced. Altho depending on your situation, you may not feel very well after it happens. I realize each situation is different but I stayed home & cancelled a vacation so I'd be close to my EP.
Best of luck with your decision,
Janet

My ICD/pacer is not a burden. I still play tennis and golf.

Thanks for your comment.. That was kinda my thinking.. however none of the Drs. have commented on that. . They just keep saying when it hits ERI we'll do it.
