Pre-implant Questions

I am have a PM implant next Friday, the 9th. My doctor has not informed me except to give me labs, watch for the day before hospital call and show up.

What are the most important questions I should ask of him before this event?

What is my diagnosis?
What happens if I decide not to have implant done?
Will device get rid of my symptoms?
What are possible complications?

These are just a couple. There is a great book out there you and your family should read: Understanding Your Pacemaker or defibrillator : What patients and families need to know.

AV-Heart Block

by Ralph - 2013-08-03 05:08:04

My doctors impression is complete heart block:symptomatic. with lightheadedness. new onset.

Electrophysiology:
EKG (Sinus Rhythm, Mobitz I, L ant hemiblock) (7/30/13)
HOLTER (Rare PVCs, 1st degree AVB, MobitzII) (07/17/13)
EKG (sinus rhythm, 1st degree AVB, Mobitz I, LAHB IRBBB) (07/17/13).

My doctor said that my electrical system is not working. If I currently have been advised not to drive, my lightheadedness and shortness of breath has been increasing over time. In may I had a near-syncope-but could have been caused by BP.

I'm trying to discover information to set my expectations.

Thanks
Ralph

Ask him ......

- how many Pace-makers has he fitted ( if this is his first, run like hell !

- how long does he think the op will take ?

- do you need to stay overnight ,if so , why ?

- does he do it under a local anaesthetic and, if not, why not ?

- does he prefer any make of PM and, if so, which one and why ? If he has no preference, is he aware of the differences between different makes ?

- in his experience, how will you feel immediately afterwards and after 3 or 4 weeks ?

Best of luck
