I am a new member with a st jude pacemaker that was implanted two months ago ...it was an emergency implant.I had 3rd degree heartblock. This group has been extremely helpful for me because I knew absolutely nothing about pacemakers. My question...I am considering purchasing an all electric Nissan Leaf car...do I need to be concerned about EMF?

Hi, my friend has a new Nissan keyless Ignition and every time I ride with her I become a little dizzy and feel awful. I don't know what it is that makes me feel this way, but it happens in the Hyundai as well. They both have computers that run 24 hours a day in each car. You know, the car's computer is always o n recording the weather and GPS.
Many people have no problems at all but I do. I'd test drive the car you are interested in for a nice long ride and see how you feel afterwards. BTW, I have heartblock too and I have a st. Jude dual pacemaker.
Have fun! Let us know what you decide to buy.

I own a optima hybrid keyless and no problems. Battery is in the trunk I sat in the the back and no effect. Try before you buy salesman will tell you anything to make the sale as well as we are all diffrent as to what effects us. Good luck. Rob.
Keyless Ignition

Hi,
I've ridden in two different vehicles that were keyless ignitions without any problems. I do know of one individual who is 100% paced that does have problems when she rides in them. I've also read other posts stating it bothers some and not others, so I'd be a little cautious before buying one. Do a search on this website as well under (keyless ignition, electric car, etc.)
I think Angry Sparrow has a great idea. Rent one for a couple of days and see how you feel. Hopefully, you'll do great. If not, I wouldn't even think of buying one.
Best of luck!

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
not a problem

A few of the electric/hybrid cars and/or cars with the remote starts have something in their manual about pm's but it's all cya. Mayo did a study, found no evidence of interference. I've ridden in several, have never felt anything. I pace every beat so I'd know pretty quickly. Newer pm's are very well shielded and very little affects them.
