Ice Box

by Vmurph - 2014-02-05 03:02:42

Last night we got 3" of snow and 5" of ice on top of it. Patio doors are frozen shut! Poor dog looked like she was on ice skates when she went out. lol

Yup. Lots of digging . . .

by SaraTB - 2014-02-05 03:02:50

Seem to have got around 8" plus a layer of ice. Too wet and its jamming the snow thrower, so we're shovelling out the drive (which is long) by hand. Halfway so far, but taking it slowly. Pass the ibuprofen.

And - oh joy! - there's another storm coming on Sunday.

Not all of it but most of it since it's 16X32 ft. . Must be at least 18". The news claims 12.5" but we always seem to get more. Our road is elevated and it snows here when it rains on the main road just a half mile away.

My husband doesn't know it yet since he is out snow blowing the driveway....about 100 ft. long. He wouldn't let me do it if he knew. I try telling him my heart is probably stronger than his....oh well.

You are not alone😊

8 more inches here added to the previous snow...more to come this weekend. Close to breaking a very old snow record according to the news. Yeah! Come on spring🌷

Yes and I'm sick of it. I live north of Boston so we get much of the same weather. The kids and I may enjoy the snow days now (I work in a school) but come the end of June we won't!

..............................all good cardio work....

The Almighty is doing you a favour by giving you a good reason to get out and get your heart working....

...you will talk to your neighbours..as in co / congratulation opportunity...

..you will work up a bit of a sweat that means that you will be VERY attractive to the opposite..( or same in a correct society )..sex..and if you are lucky,. will not be told to get out and have a wash.

Or..if you are Dons Wife..just be grateful that the Wonderful Warrior is...

1..Out of the house

2..Out of his jammies..

3..Doing something useful..like..shooting something.

Don,, we all have our addictions, be it booze, drugs etc.

I reckon that you just cannot do without Cordite...

Just a thought..

Blessing

by Bostonstrong - 2014-02-05 06:02:01

Yes Tatman the Almighty has blessed some of us abundantly this winter with cardio opportunities such as shoveling, ice picking, etc. My poor child in Florida has not been so favored, tells me his pool temp is only 84 degrees after getting the solar heaters installed and he complains of too bright sun and 85 degree February weather. He complains so much about this that I'm pretty sure he wants his mom to move in and console him.
I'm actually enjoying this. Cancelled patients and took a day off, it's pretty sweet being home today. No worries about mowing, trimming, fertilizing, transplanting, weeding, watering, powerwashing, planting, etc in this weather. And the red cardinals are even more stunning against the snowy backdrop of woods.

Your mom misses you! She wants you to visit!

I'm So Done!!!

by Moner - 2014-02-05 06:02:32

Hi Boston!

Can you believe this!

My mother also lives in Florida and her pool is at that temp too!

I love those red cardinals now, especially in the snow.

I can't wait for Spring.

Indoor activity

by Bostonstrong - 2014-02-05 06:02:33

Leslie Sansone walk at home dvds are good but check with your dr first. If yoga and Pilates got your heart rate that high you def want their blessing before trying something new. Nice trade off with plowing!

Beer for Plow

by Vmurph - 2014-02-05 06:02:34

My neighbor has a plow on his riding mower and does my very large driveway for us. I pay with beer. It's a win win!

But I do wish I was able to get out and shovel for a bit. Being inactive for so long is frustrating. Anyone have any ideas on activity inside? My EP wanted me to do Pilates videos or Yoga but Merlin told on me and my HR was over 230. So they said no more.

I've had 4 mini-strokes in the last year and they're afraid I'm going to have a big one at any time.

No Fun in Kentucky.

Addictions & age...

by donr - 2014-02-05 09:02:21

...are two interesting subjects to juxtapose.

Tat Man - I always loved the image that "...a whiff of cordite..." creates. Sort of up there with Napoleon's "...Whiff of grapeshot..." or McArthur's "...rattle of musketry..." he used in his final speech to the Corps of Cadets in about 1962.

Interestingly, my maternal Grandfather became addicted to Nitroglycerine as a powder inspector during The Great War, back in 1918. That is a terrible addition to break - literally painful.

Bossy - you & Grateful are too old to be shoveling snow. That's why God graced the World w/ teens & we parents permit them to survive. They are here to shovel our snow for us. Remember my tale of my friend, Bernie Connelley? He was just barely in his 50's. Especially in the kind of temps we are having to accompany the snows.

Ever eaten a really cold orange popscicle too fast & felt the pain it could cause in the chest as it went down, constricting all the blood vessels as it went? And THAT's not even as cold as the air you breathe when it's in the teens & 20's.

Cheers - it's finally above the freezing mark here in Nawth Jawja.

Look up in the sky

by Moner - 2014-02-05 09:02:26

Hi Boston,

That's me up in the sky waving down on you, as I'm heading down to Florida.

I'll send some warm sunshine to you real soon.

We need something stronger than Calgon. Too old? Us??? Tatman thinks I'm old too, used the term grand dame, which refers to an elderly lady. I'm getting slammed here. Old, bossy...
Actually my wonderful neighbor cleared my drive today, which was great because even though I have ditched the crutches I'm basically hobbling on one leg still. I can't be up on it for very long. Seeing ortho Friday, hope they can fix this. I'm dreaming about running.

And …..

by IAN MC - 2014-02-06 05:02:26

I read in the newspaper this morning that shivering is as good as exercise for losing weight ! Apparently when we shiver our muscles produce the same hormone, irisin, as is produced in high intensity exercise.

So if any of you are fat , get out there . stand and watch your other halves, sons , daughters do the shovelling and while you watch them, SHIVER ! You will be far slimmer than them in no time at all !

Nah.. My patients love me. I was really touched last year after the Boston marathon bombings by how how many called the office the next day to see if I was okay. I explained I wasn't there, that you actually had to be GOOD to run in that one, but God bless em for thinking I could qualify and to be so concerned for me.

by donr - 2014-02-06 12:02:07

...That's Grand Dame - w/ capital letters leading the P-rade. That's Grand as in great, Glorious. Magnificent, Exhalted, etc..... Dame as in Lady, Classy, etc....

As for you, oh, Grateful one, "Too Old" can mean many things - like at some point in your lives you become too old for pinafores & Mary Janes, too old to speak as a child, too old to play tackle football w/ the boys, too old to run neked from the waist up (at least in polite company).

I told my Daughters that before they could get a drivers license, they had to be able to change the tire on our 1975 Chevrolet station wagon. These were the FULL sized spares that weighed about 80 lbs. They did, successfully & each got the license at 16. I also told them that now that they knew how - be smart & get someone bigger & stronger to do the job for them. Same way w/ shoveling snow.

There are always neighbor teens. Their hands fit a shovel, also.

Happy winter, ya'll.
