Coincidence

Got interrogated yesterday and found out my rate was 197 around the time I hit the ground at the Disney half marathon. The EP said the face plant was probably volume depletion, the SVT couldn't have caused it. Really?

Sorry about the face plant, hope they find out why. Were you pushing that hard? Wasn't there any warning before you went down? Hope the party was fun. Keep going Boston, enjoy hearing about your runs. Not the down side so much, the thrill of victory, and you have had those. Best of luck!!

No blood or gore

Just big time humiliation. No memory of how I got to the ground, remember feeling so hot I thought I was going to burst into flames. I was rubbing the dew from the grass on my face to cool it and telling the paramedics no I did not have a heart problem, no do NOT call 911, no I don't need to go to medical, no no no... Was fine by the time I got to medical, just disappointed I didn't get to finish. On the upside I got to the after party at Epcot sooner.

You Didn't...

...tell us about the face plant at Disney!

How about all the grizzley details?

You KNOW how much we like blood & gore. (Or is it Thud & blunder?)

Hope you did not hurt yourself.

I loved every minute of every mile of that run until it ended and I had a fabulous weekend with my son in Florida so it's all good. I want to blame it on SVT, not being old or under training :) ....but it's possible that was just a coincidence, like the EP says.

Boston: I talked to a couple people in The Orlando area last week & they told me it had be in the mid-80's.

For someone who has been training north of the Arctic Circle, the EP could be right about the volume depletion cause!

Glad there is no permanent damage done. Damage to ego is temporary & can be reversed.

Sounds like a re-run...

These are not for me! I will only have to taste a very small portion to ensure they are good for the recipients. My son took me to a place called Cacao in Buckhead, their chocolates are phenomenal. There was a fire a few days later but their online store and Virginia Highlands shop is open. I'm ordering loads of these for Christmas gifts and hoping he brings some home for Christmas. If you want to be very decadent try their sipping chocolate.

I'm glad to hear you'll be doing the Rock and Roll in a few weeks. Hope it goes well. In the meantime, enjoy the sea salt caramel fudge, sounds fab!

The race was in early November but it was still pretty hot that night and quite humid. I had a nasty GI bug and was frantically trying to replace fluids but and lytes on race day. You didn't miss the story, I was mortified when it happened but taking it in stride now.

Me too!!!

Hi Boston,

I thought I missed the story too!!!!

Sorry to hear about that episode.

I agree with DonR about volume depletion.

I personallly remember donating blood one day, and the next day when I went out for a nice jog, I hit the wall at the last mile. My neighbor was driving by and noticed I was walking and ended driving me home.

I think the nasty GI bug, might have been the culprit for you.

Have you been able to jog, since this event?

Hope your feeling better.

Between the ice and snow here and it being dark when it get home I haven't done much. Arizona Rock and Roll is only a few weeks away, looks like its treadmill time. Right after I finish making sea salt caramels, fudge, and sugared pecans. I love Christmas.

Ok Tattoo man there go my last 3 excuses! Five weeks to train for Arizona. My EP refused to adjust settings so I will walk if I have to but I'm going to do this.

.........................please,..take this as nothing more than an invitation into the world of snow / ice running..

I have forefoot only spikes...sprinting on black ice bewilders tottering dog walkers..with forefoot spikes..DO NOT HEEL STRIKE...

YOU WILL LAND ON YOUR ARSE...

Heel strike, strap-ons are so good.

Top end ( very expensive ) head torches revolutionise night running..my Hope R4.

remains the benchmark of performance...until a new

excellent device comes on board

Night Running is a vital experience,..made only more exciting with Night Run people

......................running in ice and snow after dark ??

Try this: 1 invest in some decent, strap on Snow Spikes...ideally ones with heel spikes as well as fore-foot

2 invest in a really good head torch. I use a Hope R4....this baby kicks out up to 1000 lumens and basically turns night into day !

Happy running !

Holy cow!

I thought slipping and sliding through the snow and ice to get to work this am was an adventure. Wait until I try this! I would only run at night when I first started but that was in the spring last year. Eventually I got brave enough to do this by daylight. The night running was kind of cool, especially in the fall with a big harvest moon.

You know you're wired when...

You get your device tuned-up for hot dates.
