In a conversation about paragliding, don r says: there might be more nut cases in the pmc who want to do that....and encouraged me to post on this. So for all you other nutcases who are considering paragliding post pm, there was absolutely no problem with forces from the harness pressing on the pm. Less discomfort than a seatbelt actually. My pilot was a blast and I had my best fly ever. He asked if I wanted to have a little fun. Sure. Can't even describe what happened next but something close to but not quite somersaults in the air. Think he would not have tried that if he'd known I had a pm so I'm glad I didn't burden him with that little detail. If you are ever in Torrey Pines and want to fly ask for Ki and tell him Vicki sent you. And donr you are the best!

Jeeps

Stay away from Jeeps! I only paraglide which involves lifting up off the ground-or free falling off a cliff depending on wind- as opposed to parachuting out of a plane, which I wouldn't even consider. Not encouraging anyone to do this but just saying if you did it before a pm and enjoyed it, doing it afterward isn't going to put a lot if harness pressure over the incision. It was an amazing fly and made me feel better about being able to keep doing things I enjoy post pm.

I'm in trouble now...

..w/every cardio & PM mfgr out there.
I have never jumped out of an airplane & never will. I suffer severe acrophobia & at any elevation more than 6 ft off the ground (or floor) turn into a pile of quivering Jello.
For those few of you who may have been Airborne Troopers, I've exited the door of a 35 ft tower at Ft Benning three times & lived to tell about it.
My discussion about skydiving was based solely on physics & basic engineering plus having my steel pot bang me in the nose three times because of sloppy door exits - back when I was 20 yrs old. MY #1 Daughter is a qualified parachutist & confirmed everything I wrote, so I felt comfy w/ my thoughts.
If you were to be diving headfirst toward Mother earth at 180 mph (near terminal velocity for a human body) when you pull the handle, you just might get jerked pretty hard when the chute opens & it rotates you upright. You have to balance that against the probability of stopping a Jeep Cherokee doing 35 mph w/ your right shoulder (& you had not had a chance to change into your red tights in a phone booth). Now I have done that & it did nothing to my PM.
Darned near ripped my heart from its moorings; broke somewhere between 8 & 12 ribs & a collar bone & caused other significant internal injuries, but did NOTHING to my PM. My newest lead was but 9 weeks old & there was zero effect on that lead - much to the amazement of my Cardio.
Now go forth w/ confidence & enjoy!
