Thank you from Howie

Hello to everyone from Howie and Rose.
Yes we have a cardiologist and a EP. the 3D cardiogram showed 36% and my blood pressure was 98 over 70. The halter monitor has to be on me for 48 hours so I haven't had it on long enough to give you an answer as to the results. We'll know Monday the 24th in the evening.
I was told that using a electric drill or any saw can through off the pace maker because of the vibration and it may not work properly after that and you won't really know it. That is what the P.A. for the P.E. told us, and I can't jump start a car because the alternator and I can't go near any large magnets. A cell phone is alright but us it on the right ear. Please let me know what you think and is your information that your telling me from you or what your Doctors have told you.
Thank you,
Howie and Rose

Those guys have 24" waists &...

...84 " hips. It takes a HUGE blanket to cover their butts!

If all you get is a PM w/o a hypersensitive Rate Response function, I'll say right now that that advice is [This is the NSA intercept officer assigned to read Don's e-mail. I have censored his comment as being inappropriate for a family site].

I use every tool - powered by battery, compressed air, gasoline, electric cord - known & have had no problems. I stay away from anything powered by a small diesel engine (which is not hard, because they don't exist) & Bosch big brute jack hammers - mainly because I cannot pick them up. I have jump-started more cars than I can count - most of them our own - & never had a problem. I've leaned over the 50 amp alternator in our car while the engine was running w/o any effect. I once laid across the big green transformer box in the front yard to pick up a tool that had fallen off the top (I was using it as a work table) w/o ill effect.

I have no experience w/ welding, but there are several others & I'll let them tell you of their experiences.

MOF, in my entire ten yrs now of being a PM Host, I've had but ONE untoward event. I was climbing up through the ceiling joists of my shop & as my PM passed by the 240 Volt, 30 Amp power cable for the water heater at a distance of about 2 inches, my PM went into the test mode momentarily & it scared the daylights outa me.

I have had no experience in an industrial environment w/ 440 Volt power supply. There are several members who have & they report that in that environment you have to be careful. Magnetic fields can get more intense .

Magnets are a different colored horse - they can be a pain. Just stay away from any rare-earth supermagnets. Keep them about 6 " from your PM & you are OK. They show up on name tags. If you get one, just stick it on the opposite lapel & you should be safe.

General rule - start out exhibiting caution using any powered tool. See if it affects your PM. If it does, shut it off & put it down. Any effect will be transitory.

Any more questions - ask away!

My dr only told me to avoid big magnets and arc welding. He said anything else is ok. I have done the opposite of just about any precaution you read about like holding the cell phone on the other side. I got my first pm in 1994 and am on my 4th now. I am not careful or cautious and I am an electronics junkie. I have never once found anything to be a problem.

Your EF is on the low side but not yet bad enough to require a pm. If you feel ok and the Holter comes back with no low episodes, I'd wait.

re: vibrations and magnets, they do not do permanent damage! It will work just fine after unless you've been near one of the mega strong magnets Don mentioned. A vibration will confuse it because it senses you are moving when you arent so it raises your rate as if you are working out. It stops as soon as the vibration stops, and it only affects you if you use that feature. Magnets pull a switch closed and put it in test mode. As soon as you get away from the magnet, the switch opens and it goes back to full function.

I have jump started cars. It's best not to lean in and put your device right on top of the engine, that's not a good idea, but just standing there to hook it up is no big deal.

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic man.
