Tattoo Over PM Location

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to do a follow up post now that ive done my research, talked to my cardiologist, and made an appointment for a tattoo come july. If you missed my first post, i am a 22 y/o athletic male who was looking for advice on tattoos over a pm area. Now, im am to get a religious chest tattoo that will pretty much cover shoulder to shoulder and hide all 3 keloid scars i have from previous PM incisions and open heard surgery. Here are a few things i ran into during the process of getting approval.

1) Top tattoo artists will likely turn down ICD patients unless they have a note from the doctor. In my case, my cardiologist was more than happy to write a note (he is a top cardiologist in NY) knowing full well that tattoos never pass through skin and the electromagnet on tattoo gun isnt directed towards the chest.

2) Get antibiotics prescribed. I have to take antibiotics for the dentist and similarly, it would be best to do it during this procedure. Even the cleanest tattoo parlor cant help the bacteria on our skin which we enter the parlor with.

3) Keloid scars have a rule of thumb for tattooing. They say its about 6 to 7 years and must be almost white. If they are less than that and are still pink that means they are active and are at risk of splitting.

4) Wording or portraits which require intense symmetry are bad over incision sites. Once re-opened and sewn back shut, you will be left with... for instance the word Love may become "Lve" or "LE" and your beatiful portrait of your mother might then look like some extraterrestrial after a replacement. For me, im having a cross in the center of my chest with wings that cover both pecks. The incision scars will fit within horizontal feathers and, when replacing is necessary, i can always get touched up.

5) Allow proper time for healing.

6) Cleanse thoroughly to avoid infection.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask or send me a message!

thanks

Good info !!!

Prior to getting my pm my doctor saw I had some pretty large detail tattoos cross my chest and he laughed and said this will be a first...

After the surgery he took the time to stich and glue my incision up and made it look like nothing ever happened, needless to say I was very happy.

Thanks for the good info, cause I still have more work I want to get done on my chest and wasn't sure If I was able to.

Take care, God bless.....
