I'm 33 years old - had a pacemaker implanted in 2012 for bradycardia after my 4th cardiac ablation for tachycardia - my tachycardia is now back and I'm wondering if anybody else ever experienced this ???

Hi!

What kind of tachycardia did/do you have?

I have had eight catheter ablations to treat permanent sinus node reentry tachycardia, AV-nodal reentry tachycardia, atrial flutter, several ectopic atrial tachycardias, accelerated junctional rhythm/tachycardia. Been on all antiarrhythmic drugs that are on the (German) market, too. Suffered a serious complication from my four sinus node modifications, namely superior vena cava syndrome. Had my first single-chamber pacemaker implanted in 1999 at the age of 18 after the third sinus node modification; until today needed five more pacemaker surgeries, and had to have epicardial leads placed.

So, yes, I have lots of experience with tachycardias coming back or rather: new tachycardias showing up shortly after another had been ablated. The only tachycardia that returned several times was my sinus tachycardia. And even now, after four modifications my EP found activity in my sinus node area again. You just cannot destroy the SA node completely as it's not a clearly defined node, but rather an area that looks different in everyone's heart.

What's the plan for you now? If you suffer from sinus tachycardia, I hope they do not want to ablate again. Have you tried antiarrhythmic drugs?

Best wishes
Inga

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.
