I installed a set of LED spreader lights in a boat yesterday and when finished tried them. While the VHF radio was on and the lights were switched on the audio immediately was muted. When lights were off the audio returned. A few cycles of the switch yielded same result. Upon researching this am on the Internet it turns out that the circuitry on LED lights emits RFI and EMI which is relevant to the operation of the VHF radio aboard the boat AND MAY interfere with pulse generator (PACEMAKER) signal
Who would have imagined that! We all knew to avoid microwaves, electrical power plants, entrances to merchandising stores with product theft alarms and some power tools etc. but now some lights as well. Ireland online that the new light bulbs sold from places like Home Depot have produced RF that interfered with TV signals on certain channels. Could they also interfere with our pacemakers?

drill power polisher

Hi,
I had a problem using a power drill with a lambs wool pad to polish the car.
Felt very faint, sweaty and quite ill.
Stopped and back to normal very quickly.
I was bending using it, so I suppose it would have been quite close to my pm. Just didn't think.
Otherwise no probs at all.

I had been a carpenter prior to PM and knee replacement. I do not think I will ever return to my profession. Trying for social security disability for 3 months with no determination in sight. Life is still uncertain now. Bewildered at best

We do not need to avoid microwaves, they've been safe for more than 20 years. The security things in stores are safe, also, just don't linger around them. Most things produce EMI or RF to some extent, our pm's are shielded against it and are perfectly fine around home electronics. It's the big commercial generators and machinery that we need to be careful of.
I have been paced since 1994 and last week was the first time I ran into anything that interfered, and I was touring a power plant. Yes, I know I probably wasn't supposed to, I was curious to see if I could feel it! Yes, I could in two of the rooms with large generators, but I felt fine as soon as we moved on to the next room. I have a check next week, going to ask if it showed up on the report. I will add that I do all sorts of things some people are warned against. I hold my cell phone with my shoulder, I run with my ipod clipped right over my pm, I read in bed with my ipad propped on my chest complete with magnetic cover. I asked my St Judes rep about these things, he said not to worry about it, that nothing I had at home would cause problems. Most warnings are simply cya.
The longer we have these things and feel good, the easier it is to get blase about it. ;o)
