Becoming a police officer

I am 18 years old and I have a defibrillator, I have always wanted to get into the law enforcement field and I don't know if I can do that anymore because of my device. I would like to know if anyone has any info. on whether or not I can still become a police officer with an implanted defibrillator. Thankyou

Hi, you may need to post where you are in the world, the answer will, I suspect, depend where you are & which service you wish to join.
However, you will possibly have to pass a medical / fitness test (you do where I am), so I would give them a ring & ask.

depends

ICD's are trickier than pacemakers. It's going to depend on the department, they'll each have their own rules.

I had to retire because of taking blood thinners

Like the others said above, I think it depends on what agency you work for. We had a detective working with us that had an ICD, but I don't know of any patrol deputies or officers that have one.

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic woman.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
