New here

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting. I am 25 and learned today that I will be getting a pacemaker placed next month. My official diagnosis is syncope from carotid sinus hypersensitivity. I did a 24-hour holter monitor last week and today my EP told me that I had several periods where my heart dropped to 30 (one of these times my heart "paused" for a few seconds, he said). He also mentioned that my heart was randomly "adding a beat".

I feel much better about my procedure after reading through many posts on here. Has anyone else had a pacemaker to treat carotid sensitivity? If so, did it help?

Thanks in advance!

S.

Hi, yes I got my pm for the same reason. Had similar symptoms to you, felt sick all the time, very tired etc. After pm felt much better, things were great for a couple of weeks, then went downhill slowly for 3 weeks until first checkup.
Then they made adjustments based on notes I'd made of when I'd felt ill & what data the pm had shown during those 5 weeks.
Upshot is I feel great now, no lightheadedness, no sickness.
I have only had pm since 5th March & now I just get on with life as before.
I take long walks uphill & over rough terrain, do a bit of running & am just as active as before.
I do my best to forget I have a pm. Once you've got your pm set up just get on with your life, don't fall into the trap of checking your pulse every 5 minutes, if you're pm goes wrong, you will know.

Hi my son has total congenital heart block and got a PM fitted last week, first one - he was never ill or anything just a low heart rate of 30 beats per min. the cardiologist wanted to fit a PM before he went to UNI in Sept - in the space of a week he is like a new son - he is more relaxed, more chatty and less grumpy, he said his hands are always warm before they were always cold, he has a much better colour on his face and overall I think it has really improved his activity level - for the first time ever he wanted to come walking with me and our dog today.... which is also a nice way for us to spend time together outdoors... the procedure was done under local anthestic and he was in and out in the one day.. you will be fine and never look back (as they say) good luck and keep in touch... Glad you found us!! I have a different problem (av block) but was about your age when I got my first one. I'm 46 now, on my 4th, healthy and active. Don't be shy if you have questions or just want to chat.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
