Haven't been here in a while, been busy with work and daughter's upcoming wedding etc. Finally found out a couple of weeks ago why I was so short of breath and not feeling well (since about November of 2015) despite the PM, the OHS I had last year etc. ASTHMA! believe it or not! now doing better. Now I have another issue totally unrelated I am having ankle pain and have been for about 3-4 weeks(kept thinking it would go away) finally gave in and saw the dr. about it today and thinks it's tendonitis he wanted to do an MRI and began to set it up at a local clinic in town. Explained that I had an MRI safe Medtronics PM actually went over to the radiology dept with my card and they couldn't do it because there was no way that they could monitor my heart rate during the MRI. (that is why they couldn't do it.) so said I would have to go elsewhere to have it done--ok I figured I could go to the hospital and have it done there-- no problem well apparently not--they can only do one brand but no one was available to tell them which brand of PM they could do so now i'm thinking geez lets just treat the darn thing and forget about the MRI about that time they speak to the dr. again and he decides we'll do a CT scan instead. have one scheduled for tomorrow hopefully they'll be able to figure this out. I guess i'm just doing a little ranting. but I was getting so frustrated. I guess the other question I have is if they still end up having to do an MRI what do they need to do or what do I need to do to have this done. I have a Medtronics Advisa DR MRI SureScan PM

MRI

I had an MRI done on my back in January. I also have a Medtronic MRI safe pm. It was no problem at all. I just provided the hospital with all of the pacemaker information, model etc. They have a Medtronic rep come in and put it in "safe" mode. (At least that was what I was told.) They stay with you until the MRI is done. I was also told that they have to be sure a cardiologist is close by. It was very easy. Afterwards they reset it to your settings.
I hope it all goes well for you.

Asthma

Hey KMom.
I've had asthma most of my life and it's been under good control for quite a while.
I've also been having SOB episodes. Did you have wheezing or just SOB or can't get a deep breath?

Asthma

I've had it off and on too but mostly it was severe coughing attacks--I just couldn't stop coughing (tickle in throat where I believe it was inflamed to the point of almost closing off??--IDK) so this was entirely different. no one amazingly picked it up which was really strange. but my GP after listening really good to my lungs heard slight wheezing and had me breathe into a little device and sure enough I wasn't getting any air coming thru. now on meds for that and feeling pretty good. still get short of breath. but I think that's due to being out of shape?? update on ankle it was actually broken--they ended up doing a CT scan instead of the MRI and the calcaneus bone was slightly cracked. and the weird thing is that I don't even know what I did or how I broke it. needless to say bone density scan set for the 12th. see the cardio office today for update and hopefully find out the results of the echo they did last month. now if I can just get this darned boot off I think I would be a happy camper.

Pacemakers are very reliable devices.

I also have a MRI safe Medtronics PM just inserted a month ago and upon inquiry about getting MRI's done locally in the Gainesville, Florida area, I was informed the only place that would agree to do an MRI was halfway down the state, many miles away.
