Pregnancy with PM

Hi there,

I have third degree heart block and I am just wondering if anyone here has any information about pregnancy with heart block and if they have given birth naturally with it. I've never really been given any information

Thanks!

I had two pregnancies after I got a pm for my congenital heart block. Both were natural deliveries, no complications. My ob was freaking out a bit at first but a phone call with the cardiologist took care of it. The cardio said the pm fixes my problems, treat me like everyone else. I worked out until the week I delivered with both. They had me on a heart monitor during delivery and said if my heart got stressed it would be an immediate c-section but everything was smooth.

I made a choice to not have an epidural. Partly because a side effect can be a lowered heart rate and I didn't want to increase the chances of them using this to not let me deliver on my own, partly because I have a history of bad reactions to pain meds and I didn't want to risk dealing with that while pushing out a baby! I've talked to others here who went with the epidural early so they wouldn't be stressed, so the delivery would be easier on them. Talk to your dr and the anesthesiologist to decide what's right for you.

My babies are 15 and 16 now. Teaching them to drive has been a lot harder on my heart than being pregnant ever was :oP

Its ok ...

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
