I wonder...

I was just reading some of the past posts and comments from members of this site dated back as far year 2005. I then check on to see if there are any recent or new comments from them. There are none. Where did they all go?

It depends

Sometimes people just show up from time to time when they have a question or problem.

Others stay to help and learn more about their devices and conditions.

Hi!

Unfortunately a lot are probably like me, come in a lot in the early days when we are unsure, scared and having problems, then eventually when everything is fine we fade away into oblivion. This is why I always try to pop in every few months with an update on what I am doing and send messages of encouragement!

Come and go

by Tracey_E - 2014-01-02 09:01:08

Members come and go! There is a group of us that have been around long term but the majority get their questions answered then move on. I think I first came in 2009. There are a few regulars who still post who have been here longer than me but I don't know when they arrived.

History

by Tracey_E - 2014-01-02 09:01:43

I looked up my first post, 7/2/2008. Replies came from live_strong who still posts occasionally, electric frank a beloved very active member who passed last year, and a few others with names I don't recognize as regulars.

Where do they go?

by donr - 2014-01-02 10:01:17

Into Cyber La La Land.

They just don't come back. BUT...their posts are not erased, nor are their names removed from the members list. If the names were removed, there would be no way to look up material entered on the site, additionally, since the names are linked to their postings, the postings would also disappear.

F'rinstance - ElectricFrank has been gone since April 2013. Take his name out & the postings with it & a good bit of significant information that is still appropriate would be gone. We are talking several THOUSAND postings.

Perhaps we need a data element that indicates when a person dies, quits or goes inactive to allow future generations to know why members are not present.

It's normal

by Theknotguy - 2014-01-02 11:01:31

It's normal for people to move on. Not everyone is cut out to be a social worker so, once the questions are answered, they move on with their lives. Not good, not bad, just normal situations. So if you're concerned if early posting people have died, not the case. Also, some people don't like to be continually reminded of their condition. It's just too depressing.

I've been on this forum since October, 2013 so I'm a newbie. But I'm already starting to see the same questions come up again and again. For some people that gets to be real boring and tiring.

In the meantime I'll continue to help where I can. Helping others makes me feel better so I'll keep doing it for as long as it makes me feel better. If I get to the point where I start to hate it or get depressed, I'll get out.

Hang in there. Life gets better!

Still around !

There are probably many more like me. We got a great deal of help when we first had our PM's fitted, and as I recovered I tried to support those who followed the same path. The amount of knowledge available to new members is still amazing. The smart members in my early days, have been replaced by equally helpful and knowledgeable members.
