Any problem going to the dentist ?

Hello all, does anyone have any problem or experience to share with going to the dentists? I mean, are there limitations to what the dentists can do if you have a PM? Would any of the equipment affects the PM? I appreciate any input. Thank you and have a great day.

I get to go on Thursday

I will tell the dentist I now have a PM just so they're aware, but don't expect any issues as long as they don't try to use my PM site as a leverage point. I will smack them if they rest their arms on it. Everything I've read on my PM mfg (Medtronics) site and Clinician manual said their were no problems with dental procedures. Just let them know you have it.

Hope you're appointment goes well.

no problems

for a regular cleaning, no, but tell them about it so they are aware. There is one tool they use (ultrasonic cleaner?) that they are careful to run the cable away from me but that's precaution not necessity.

If you have a procedure that requires cauterizing they have to take precautions.

Once upon a time, i was told to pre-treat with antibiotics but that's no longer recommended for most conditions related to pm's.

Duke and Kathy: I have a Boston Scientific ICD and I have been told by BS not to let the Cavitron (cleaning tool) cable lay across my chest. They said to ask the Dentist to let the cable hang beneath the chair instead of on me.

So you may want to call Medtronics and check with them about the Cavitron if your Dentist uses it.
Tell the Dentist too, they want to know if you have a device.

Good luck,

shots

My dentist used a different anesthetic on me, one without adrenaline but that's the only difference.

Thanks for all replies

You know you're wired when...

You have the perfect reason to show off your chest.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
