Shoulder & Hip Pain

Hi - I usually don't post but after reading many of the posts and the great comments I decided that someone out there may be able to help me or give me some advice.

I have had my pacemaker since Jan 2013 and recently have been having severe shoulder and hip pain. The pain in my hips get so bad that it is hard for me to walk. My left shoulder feels like a hot poker is being jammed into it.

These pains have been growing in intensity for the past month or two. What could be causing this and is there some solution?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

It's highly unlikely this is related to your heart/pm. I would start with your gp, maybe an orthopedist or chiropractor.

I get sciatica pain bad enough I can barely put weight on my leg, my chiropractor fixes it right up. Yesterday it was bothering me as bad as it ever gets, saw him yesterday afternoon, was at the gym running and doing squats with barbells. Not everyone has results like that, but it can't hurt to check into it.

Probably NOT cardiac related. If it is, you will have a hard time convincing most Cardios.

This sounds like two separate issues, but you need a simple test to sort it out.

My wife had shoulder pains like you describe & it turned out to be fibromyalgia - solved w/a shot of steroids deep in the back along the surface of the shoulder blade. An orthopod solved this one for her.

An alternative cause could be a vertebrae out of alignment in the Cervical or upper thoracic spine areas.

As to the hip - a likely cause is a misalignment in the lumbar spine area.

A GOOD chiro can quickly & painlessly sort these out for you in about 10 minutes face down on his/her table. The pain relief is immediate if the spine is the problem. The treatment is non-invasive, relaxing & definitive. Unfortunately, it is also only temporary - it will come back. The vertebrae will move again. But this beats the crap out of spinal surgery.

Look for one who uses a device called an "Activator." That is a device that functions not unlike a builder's staple gun. It looks like a syringe on steroids & has a rubber tip on it. The rubber tip is placed at the point the Chiro wants something to be moved - like a vertebrae - the plunger is squeezed down, cocking a spring that suddenly lets go, sending a small shock wave into the body at precisely the point where aimed. Something is moved back into place & the discomfort is gone. Far more comfy than having your back manipulated by hand.

If such a single treatment does not work, you have just totally eliminated a source of your aches & pains.

Thank you Tracey and Don for your suggestions and I will make an appointment with my gp this week for a referral for a good orthopedist or chiropractor and to ensure nothing else is going on.
