juju getting nervous!

4 more days and the PM goes in! Tuesday at 2:30. The Dr. said I would have to stay overnight to make sure the leads are ok. SO nervous about it all - not just the surgery but keeping a positive attitude afterwards. Hoping I adjust mentally and physically. I hope I will be like some of the members that have stated they feel like they could run a marathon now!!

Well, I will let you know how it all goes....
Any last words of wisdom???

Thanks,
juju

Being positive

by cropduster - 2013-04-06 06:04:06

I keep a positive attitude by remembering there are many people much worse off than me. Pre PM I felt very bad, was on the verge of being unable to work & support myself even on meds. Now I am working full time & have a life back. I feel unwell most days still, occasional shortness of breath, tiredness, but I get through ok & am working with the hospital to get the right PM settings for me. I am off meds,
I find it easy to cope psychologically when I remember what others have to put up with, my SSS seems trivial by comparison.

positive attitude

There have been a lot of studies that show a positive attitude helps us heal faster. Go into it with a positive attitude, tell yourself you WILL conquer this and come out stronger. It's perfectly normal to be nervous, just focus on feeling better.

The anticipation is hard for any surgery. You will most likely feel so much better after your implant, I know I did.

I wish I knew about this site before my ICD implant 4 years ago. I had a lot of questions and did not know where to turn for answers or reassurance. There is a lot of support here.

A good attitude is very important for recovery. Follow Doctors orders and ask about Cardiac Rehab when the time comes. I think it is a very important step in the recovery process. In the beginning, you don't know how much you can exercise your heart. The Nurses monitor you while you exercise at your own pace. You will meet others with similar conditions.

My Cardiac Rehab Nurses were kind, caring and we laughed a lot....good medicine!

Keep us posted,

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
