Is it too soon?

I had my PM 7 weeks ago and feel great. We were thinking about taking our boys to either Six Flags over Texas or Hurricane Harbor (Water Park) this weekend. Is it too soon for me to ride roller coasters or the slide and tube rides at the water park? Just not sure.

Six Flags

I work at Six Flags Great America in Chicago and have a PM, make sure you ask at Guest Services if they have any magnetic brake rides as it could reset your PM. I have to stay away from them even at our park. As far as riding coasters I would say that your site could be too sore to ride coasters (think of the bar going over your shoulder), plus some surgeons/cardiologists recommend that you don't lift your arm above your shoulder for a few weeks to months. I would ask your cardiologist.

Go for it

Hi Snip,

I rarely disagree with my fellow PM Clubbers but this is one of those times. You say you are 7 weeks out and feel great, then I say, go do whatever the heck you want to, ride the rollercoaster that goes upside down 3 times or whatever.

Magnetic brakes are not going to affect your PM. If the implant site is sore, the shoulder harness might make you sore (but you say you feel great).

You should be able to do just about anything you did prior to getting it. Living your life in fear of doing this or that is not what you signed up for. Your PM will be there for you.

Just my 2 cents; this is a great website and I love these guys-

rides

Gentle rides are ok, water rides should be fine, but I'd stay off the coasters and anything that bounces you around too much at this point. Odds are it won't do any damage but it will leave you sore, and why take chances? And ditto what Heather said about the magnetic brakes. I ignore most of the heart warning signs because they're on everything bigger than a carousel, but I do avoid magnetic brakes. Finding a place to get my pm reprogrammed would take the fun out of a trip ;)

what they said

I think a few more months and the roller coasters will be fine, I've been on dozens and did the six flags too, very fun i might add! It's a little soon IMO, those shoulder harness things will sit right where your pm is and sometimes they push down so hard before letting up I just don't think it's a good idea quite yet. Wait til it's good and imbedded.

Water rides on the other hand I say go for it!

Also, I have never heard of avoiding rides with magnetic brakes and I've been on many a roller coaster in my day so either that's a myth or i have been extremely lucky. I literally have no idea. Thanks for the new paranoia pacemaket club! Lol
