SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Title says it all; Rec'd a Pvt Msg yesterday AM from a name I did not recognize - jsmithlome. Checked Member List & found that the member had ZERO posts/comments.

"She" wanted me to contact her off line via personal e-mail at her personal e-mail address because she "Needed my help..."

Sent her a return Pvt Msg, telling her that I did not do that, to tell me what she need help for via another Pvt Msg.

She returned my mail this AM - Wants to use my bank account to transfer $7 Million USD to help people w/ health problems yada, yada, yada.

Replied this AM, Telling her to go fish in a Kansas river - they are muddy & the suckers feed on the bottom.

Anyone else get one of these?

You recognize my member name. So can I use your bank account? I'll only ask for $6 million USD.

...doing up this early?

I'm here boning up the guts to face the day at the clinic installing baseboard in Daughter's office.

No, you cannot use my bank account! You would probably use my $7 million to buy a yacht or a big suspension bridge across the Hudson River at Bear Mountain so you could get rich of the tolls!

While we are at it, do you know anyone who can get me a good price on a rustic cabin at the New Windsor Encampment - I need it for summers.

I almost spewed the coffee out of my mouth. So much for incognito.

I'm always up early, just not usually on the site this early.

The Encampment is full but we have a rustic shed, very rustic... in our backyard which you can rent for the summer. It has windows and skylights so plenty of natural light. I'll give you a deal, $3 million for you and the missus for the summer.

I'll buy a yacht with the other $3 million and we'll cruise on down to Jawjah to pick you guys up. Transportation included....so the whole package for $6 million. Now...how 'bout that bank account info?

Scam

I reported this person to the site administrator, and to the Federal Trade Commission Scam/Identity Theft site. I also messaged the person and let her know.

How to increase security?

by Selwyn - 2016-03-08 04:03:20

I received the scam message.
I did note the lack of any postings and comments by jsmithlome.

No one should respond to a message not related to a posting or comment, I think.

I would be interested in how this could be stopped as it has the potential to do some damage to this site.

Security

by donr - 2016-03-08 04:03:54

Selwyn: we are safe as long as we are not gullible enough to use our personal email to respond. This scam runs through the US all the time/

This is a new twist, trolling through our Pvt Msg system. that's why I posted the original msg here in the open. Interesting to see how many people got one of those msgs.

...this AM, aren't you!

Four comments before a cup of coffee.

Google & a good knowledge of the Hudson River Valley helps get rid of a lot of the fog surrounding where people live. Especially when their town name is in their Bio..

Better buy a low draft yacht to get to our place. You will have to go to the gulf of Mexico, up the Chattahoochee River to the Etowah River, then into Yellow Creek. When you get to the spillway of the Dam , there's an intermittent stream that goes right to our back yard at the top of a hill. According to the EPA, it's a navigable waterway, even though it's dry right now. But we'll be packed & waiting on our dock. Just give us your ETA.

A word of warning - there may be a moonshine still on the bank of the creek. Our County is famous for moonshiners from the old days. All good NASCAR fans know about "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville." & our county's historical connection w/ the illicit likker industry!

I can make you a distributor - you supply the Mason jars. We can make a killing off that!

I am surprised that you don't want to help poor people with medical needs.

Now I realize the concern about giving out your bank account information.

But I have a simple solution. Use you daughters bank account. Being a doctor she is in the perfect position to know those that have medical needs.

(BTW, tell her that I have this case of sever toe hang nail. I have professional recommendation that a 2 week Mediterranean curse will be of great help.)

And by the way you WILL HEAR from the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Kansas DNR about your comments on Kansas rivers. I believe that legal action is being prepared at this time.

Don, now you know....

Why I don't post in the AM.

Of course! You were a West Point grad!!

Bill, I like your idea. a 2 week Mediterranean cruise sounds much better....Don is gonna make me run drydock.
