Poking pain in area of pacemaker

I had to have my pacemaker replaced after only 4 years because it could not be adjusted to some changes in my heart rate. My new pacemaker was put in in March, 2013 and I have been feeling great ever since. However today, I started experiencing periodic sensations like someone was poking me with a needle around the pacemaker site. It is not constant but a little disconcerting and uncomfortable when it occurs. Is this something that sounds typical?

After 4 years...

Hello,
After 4 years, you are familiarized with certain things: keep an eye on the area where the pacemaker was implanted and report to your doctor any difference in colour and sensations.
In my case, I am new to pm world, because I had mine implanted in June this year. I still feel a little pain on the very location and I have been noticing that the skin around the pacemaker location is stretching. I'm afraid that it could lead to erosion, because the skin is getting thinner in that area. Those are some details that we need to observe, but in my case it is because I am a very thin man and the pacemaker is very evident.
In terms of function, I know that it is working well, I'm feeling much better than right before the implant, my near-faint episodes started to diminish and I am generally feeling ok. After the implant, we notice how different life could be. for the better.
I hope that your pain disappears and you can have a normal life.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
