Conscious of Heart Beating

Should I be feeling anything from the normal operation of my pacemaker? At various times (there is no pattern) I am conscious of my heart beating. The episodes last for a few minutes at a time. I have an ADDR01 Adapta DR Pacemaker implanted for bradycardia 12-18-12. I had been fainting occasionally before I received the pacemaker. I am an 85 year old active female in generally good health with hypertension, hypothyroidism and type II diabetes. Thanks in advance for any input you can give me.

.................just breathe in and out.......

It is just what millionns of people do every second of the day..

And ..ARE COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF IT

Getting a PM may,.....just result in an awareness of the feeling of Heartbeat.....its just the thing that keeps us all alive.........

Just maybe,...being aware of your heart beat .is not a scary 'death risk'..but a wonderfull 'sound track' to your fabulous health.

pacemaker is working

by scotia - 2013-02-24 10:02:00

I was having some strange feelings. I felt like my heart was racing. But when i checked my heart rate it was normal. But prior to my pacemaker i had a low heart rate. Now my heart rate is normal. I was told that it is my pacemaker working that i was feeling. So when my heart rate goes below 60 my pacemaker kicks in. I am getting used to all of these new sensations as i am sure you will as well.

good luck

Hi & You are having completely normal senses of being aware of heart beats. Now, as I'm almost your age & just got my 5th replacement pacemaker, also a Medtronic ADDR01, after all of 21 years I still am aware of heart beats lots of times. Now, if your life changes for better quality as mine, then you should maybe add 21 more good years and go for 106 ?? Wishing you lots of happy years ahead !!

Feeling heart beat

by ElectricFrank - 2013-02-25 12:02:02

I've felt my heart beat as long as I can remember. I remember back in my teens (that's a looooong time ago) I used to stop after running and check my HR against my watch. That wouldn't be unusual except I did it by just feeling my heart beating. I can also hear it modulate the slight ringing I have in my ears.

The pacer has little to do with it other that make us more aware of sensations.
