I'm due my first check since implant on 10 December next week. I am preparing my list of questions!! I read a lot on the site about remote monitoring via landline and, occasionally, by mobile [cell] phone. But does anyone in Britain have remote monitoring by any method?
It has to be possible but I can't recall anyone from this side of the pond mentioning it. But it'd be so useful, apart from anything else it would save me spending hours looking for a parking space - parking at hospitals in UK seems designed to induce cardiac arrest.

There is a thread entitled Remote Monitoring UK. Missed it on my first Search - perhaps its new specs I need :)
I have a Medtronic pm and am only about 15 miles from their Watford UK HQ. I'll speak nicely with the techie at the hospital.
Good question

Hi Robert Last year I wrote to the Medtronic UK head office in Watford and asked them that exact question. I was told that yes, it is available in the UK.
I decided not to progress it ,because on reflection, I prefer face-to face contact with the cardiac physiologist,
Interesting ...... I don't recall anyone from the UK posting about their experience with it.

You fondly named your implanted buddy.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
The thread was from last August

Hi Ian,
Search: Remote Monitoring UK.
You posted on the thread,, Ian but the last post is from a mick2203 in Newcastle who tells of his experience with remote monitoring.
There is a Carelink system that they have in the US but Peter G -who started the thread - said that he'd be seen face to face whether he had Carelink or not.
I'd like to be able to see my own readouts though but that may be going a little too far!
I'll post back what my techie says after my check up.
Robert
