Medtronic models

Hi All,
Just been fitted with a Medtronic "Advisa" pacemaker on Nov 21st. When I tried to learn more about this model online I was surprised to find that the company web-site doesn't carry a single mention of this model. Is this model really not available in the US at all, and if so is it something new in India only(unlikely), or one that has been phased out in other parts of the world. Anyone knows?

All I can do is cast the bait and wait for someone your side of the pond to bite .. maybe I will wait in vain, maybe donr

Good to hear from as always

Hi Daisy Mine is the :-

Medtronic Advisa DR MRI A3DRO1 It is interesting that mine actually includes MRI in the Device number so perhaps it is different to yours ?

I never did see the box .... did you open the box for them during your implant , was it gift-wrapped or did they give it to you as a memento ?

Ian

Same here

Hi! I just this past week also got this type of pacemaker. I have looked online and can't find a thing about it! I have read lots about the mri surescan but when I looked on the box that they gave me it does not say surescan on it or anything about an mri.The acutal name on the box says Medtronic Advisa DR A4DR01. It also says on the box MVP, Complete Capture Management AT/AF Suite Detailed EGM. Does that sound like the same one that you have?

Ian

I'm not sure why they gave me the box as I did not open the box for them cause I was completely out during the surgery. It was only suppose to be IV sedation but I was having some pain and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. I would of liked to been awake during so I could of watched everything on the monitors. I'm assuming they gave it to me as a memento lol. So does that mean mine is
probably not MRI compatable ? I will have to ask him for sure when I go back for my follow up before my next surgery.

I have one too !

Hello kgopalrao I am in the UK and had a Medtronic Advisa PM fitted in August last year. My cardiologist described it as the " Rolls Royce of pacemakers ( although I would rather have an Aston Martin myself ! )

If you Google " Medtronic Advisa" you will find lots of info about it . It is described as a 2nd generation Pacemaker because it is MRI Scan -- compatible. I know that when
it was first launched there was some uncertainty regarding the compatibility of the leads with MRI's but Medtronic subsequently said the leads were OK.

I have nothing to compare it to but it seems to work fine for me. It has certainly not been phased out in the UK and is still one of the more popular models in my local Pacemaker Clinic.

As you know both India and the UK are way ahead of the USA in terms of product innovation so they may get it eventually .......( written deliberately to provoke some sort of response from our American friends !!)

Best wishes

Ian

Sorry, Ian...

Thanks for the response, Ian. Was tied up with a move from home in Gurgaon (near Delhi) to my son's place in Mumbai, where I've been concentrating on regaining original fitness levels.

One Q for Holly (and anyone else) before the rest of what I hv to say. I was amazed to read in Holly's post that her implant was supposed to be an IV sedation procedure, and she was put under only 'cos of unexpected pain. Are implants put in with IV sedation at all, as distinct from GA?

Now to my concerns of the moment. While I hv been assured that there is no chance whatever of the PM working loose, at the same time I have been advised to avoid exercises which tax the pectorals, such as pushups, dumbbell shoulder presses and eevn jumping jacks. Strikes me as being excessively conservative IF, as they say, a PM or leads coming loose is unheard of. So how do u, Ian, and anyone else with a PM who works out, deal with this. Would be interested to hear from geriatric fitness freaks like me (I'm 74), as to whether they have eliminated such movements and adapted, or gone ahead regardless.

You know you're wired when...

You have a shocking personality.
